Ramon (Dosi) Alvarez

PRECINCT 8, BOARD MEMBER SINCE 2004

Ramon “Dosi” Alvarez is a third generation farmer who lives on the family farm in La Union, New Mexico.   He graduated from Gadsden High School in 1970 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from New Mexico State University.   He and his wife Norma have been married for 15 years and have two sons and one daughter, Dosi, Seth and Michelle.

The major crop of the farm is Pima Cotton and is rotated with alfalfa and chile. In 1993 Dosi experimented with growing organic cotton on a 20 acre parcel.   The following years more acreage was put into organic production and today the entire operation is a certified organic farm consisting of 1200 acres.

Dosi and his wife also breed quarter horses for racing. The Alvarezs’ favorite pastime is enjoying their children and their activities and watching their homebred horses race.
