Operations

The Operations Department covers the Rincon Valley to the north, from Percha Dam to the town of Rincon, the Mesilla Valley from Leasburg, north of Las Cruces, to Country Club Road in North El Paso to the south. The District boundaries comprise a total of 90,640 water righted acres and includes approximately one hundred plus miles of canal system.

The department is structured as follows:

1 Department Head
4 Assistant Watermasters
37 Ditchriders

 
The district is divided into 12 units, which 3 men covering each unit. Each unit consists of approximately 6,500 acres and 20-25 miles of canals.

The surface water irrigation season normally runs from mid-March through mid-October. The period in between is known as the maintenance season. The men who oversee the irrigation season are then assigned to various jobs that need to be addressed while the water is out of the system.
